The electrodeposition coating material (e-coat) consists of pigment paste and adhesive. The test method determines the ratio of two components in the electrodeposited coating material.

When determining ash, there is always a percentage loss (burning loss), and then the pigment content is added. Proto, ash and pigment content is not equivalent. This is accounted for by product-specific correction factors.

The ratio of pigment to binder is the key characteristic that controls the electrophoresis tank.
