The performance of protective coatings applied to steel paints and related products is significantly affected by the state of the steel surface prior to coating. Hlavní faktory, o kterých je známo, že ovlivňují tento výkon, jsou:

ISO 8501, ISO 8502 a ISO 8503 series are ready to provide methods for assessing these factors, while the ISO 8504 series provides guidance on preparation methods that can be used to clean steel substrates, indicating the ability of each method to achieve a specific level of cleanliness.

These international standards do not contain recommendations for protective coating systems for steel surfaces. Such recommendations can be found in other documents, such as national standards and codes of practice. Users of these international standards need to ensure that the specified quality is:

– Compatible and appropriate with the environmental conditions to which the steel will be exposed and the protective coating system to be used;

– Within the capacity of the prescribed cleaning procedures.

The above four series of international standards cover the following aspects of steel substrate preparation:

Vizuální posouzení čistoty povrchu (viz ISO 8501 série);

– Test hodnocení čistoty povrchu (viz ISO 8502 série);

– Sand blasting to clean the surface roughness characteristics of steel substrates (viz ISO 8503 série);

– Surface treatment method (viz ISO 8504 série).

Each of these series of international standards is divided into separate sections.

This document, together with other parts of the ISO 8502 série, specifies tests for surface cleanliness assessment. Related to such tests, there are several methods for extracting and analyzing soluble contaminants on surfaces to be painted. Some of these methods are based on wipes of relatively large test surfaces. This technique provides an average of the pollutants present, but it may hide local concentrations of pollutants. Wipes may not ensure sufficient penetration to dissolve all deep contaminants, such as ferrite. Navíc, the solvent used will affect the dissolution rate and dissolved contaminants. This document covers sampling with weak acids as solvents.

nicméně, there are other methods that use small cells as liquids to remove and collect surface contaminants. The battery (rigid or flexible) is attached to the test surface where soluble contaminants may be present, such as where pitting occurs. This technique often provides more accurate contaminant point values.

1 Rozsah aplikace
This document specifies a method for extracting surface acid-soluble contaminants for analysis using a flexible battery in the form of a patch or sleeve that can be affixed to any surface regardless of its shape (flat or curved) and orientation (facing in any direction, including downward).

The method described is suitable for field use to determine the presence of acid-soluble contaminants prior to painting or similar treatment.

This document does not include a follow-up analysis of dissolved contaminants. Analytical methods suitable for field use are described in other parts of ISO 8502 (např. ISO 8502-5).

This document is procedurally similar to but not equivalent to ISO 8502-6. The main difference lies in the solvent used and the subsequent analysis that can be performed on the extracted solution.
