ASTM D3335-85a-2020Standard Test Method for Determination of Low Concentrations of Lead, Cadmium, and Cobalt in Coatings by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

Kahulugan at Gamit

4.1 The permissible levels of heavy metals in some coatings are regulated by governmental regulatory agencies. The test method provides a complete recording procedure for determining low levels of lead, cadmium, and cobalt in water and solvent reducible coatings to determine compliance.

Saklaw

1.1 The test method covers defined coatings or inclusions in dry films that contain between 0.01% at 5% lead 2, between 50 at 150 ppm po (mg/kg) cadmium and between 50 at 2000 ppm po (mg/kg) cobalt in the liquid nonvolatile part. There is no reason to believe that high levels of all three elements cannot be determined by this test method with proper dilution and adjustment for sample size and reagent number.

1.2 Only pigmented coatings were used to evaluate the test method, but there is no reason to believe that varnishes and varnishes could not be successfully analyzed if appropriate precautions were taken.

1.3 This test method is not suitable for the determination of lead in samples containing antimony pigments (low recovery rate).

1.4 If the lead in the sample to be analyzed is in the form of an organolead compound at a concentration greater than 0.1%, a small amount of lead loss may occur, resulting in a slightly lower accuracy than shown in Section 12.
