ISO (International Organization para sa Standardisasyon) ay isang pandaigdigang alyansa ng mga pambansang pamantayan katawan (Mga katawan ng miyembro ng ISO). International standard ISO 4591 was developed by the Technical Committee ISO/TC 61, Mga plastik, Subcommittee SC 11, Mga Produkto.

The second edition cancelled and replaced the technically revised first edition (ISO 4591:1979).

This standard provides

— A method for determining the weight and thickness of a plastic film or sheet sample (see article 3);

A method for determining the average weight thickness of a plastic film or sheet roll and, if required, the yield per unit mass area (see article 4).

These methods are applicable to all plastic films and sheets and are of particular value when mechanical scanning is not accurate enough, especially for measuring the thickness of embossed sheets.
