The code specifies requirements for the composition, physical properties, performance and labeling of artists’ שמנים, resin oils and alkyd resin coatings. The specification covers pigments, carriers and additives. Requirements for pigment identification, light resistance, consistency and drying time are included. The different labeling requirements for artists’ oil paints, resin oils and alkyd coatings are described in detail. The quality assurance methods of artist’s oil paint and artist’s resin oil paint are introduced in detail. The quality assurance method of artist’s alkyd paint is introduced. Coatings should be tested for light resistance to meet specified requirements. The lightfastness class shall be specified as meeting the specified requirements.

4.1 This specification sets out quality requirements and provides a basis for consensus among producers, distributors and users.

4.2 Not all compliant coatings are the same in all respects, nor are they uniform. Changes in manufacturing (not covered by this specification) may cause some artists to prefer one brand over another, either of which may be accepted under this specification.
