מבוא

החלק הזה של ISO 14680 is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes and related products.

It specifies a method for determining the pigment content of the ashing paint of the product under test. This method does not apply to coating materials containing aluminum, organic pigments and/or dyes, or inorganic pigments treated with organic compounds. These components may make up about 10% of the pigment and are lost during the ashing process.

Because the state of many pigments and fillers changes under specified test conditions, whether the actual pigment content of the product under test can be inferred from the apparent pigment content found by this method will depend on the composition and the selected ashing temperature.

This method is generally not suitable for UV paints and varnishes or for paints and varnishes containing reactive thinners that require special heating conditions.

The pigment content of the coating material can also be determined by centrifugal method (ראה ISO 14680-1) or filtration method (ראה ISO 14680-3).
