Silver coatings are often specified for their excellent conductivity in optical, electronic and electrical engineering applications. The minimum thickness of silver coatings for optical and electronic applications ranges from 0.1 μm to 1.0μm, depending on the type of application and customer requirements.

The methods for testing adhesion of Ag coatings deposited by DC magnetron sputtering given in this document are considered to have adequate accuracy when used correctly with specimens suitable for a particular method.

The method chosen shall be the one that is expected to produce the most reliable results taking into account the thickness of the coating, the shape and size of the coating material, the substrate and its roughness, dll..

This document specifies the method of testing the coating adhesion of sputtered silver coatings for electrical, elektronik, optical and other engineering applications. Engineering applications are defined as applications in which the coating is essentially used for non-decorative purposes.

Although the appearance and suitability of sputtered silver coatings depend on the condition of the substrate, this document does not specify the condition, finish or surface roughness of the substrate prior to deposition.
