The second edition cancelled and replaced the first edition (ISO 20567-1:2005), which was technically revised with the following major changes:

– The grain size distribution table of the sand and gravel material is added;

— Instructions for using a real manometer have been added in Figure 2;

— the clause on sampling was deleted;

– The description of the appropriate method of removing loose paint has been transferred to the information attachment as an example, and the adhesive strength of the tape is no longer specified for the method of using tape;

– This document has been edited and revised, and the normative references have been updated.

In the automobile industry, multiple layers of paint are applied to the body for protection. Gravel, road metals, and other materials can damage these coatings, causing individual layers to peel off or the entire coating to layer off the substrate.

Stone chips can be simulated by single impact and/or multiple impact tests. ISO 20567-1 describes multiple impact testing; ISO 20567-2 and ISO 20567-3 describe a single impact test.

Note that recommended procedures for equipment calibration are given in Appendix B. Please note that this attachment is informative, as the method described therein is not a suitable method for checking whether uniform shock patterns are produced.
