ISO 21610-2009 “Corrosion of metals and alloys – Accelerated corrosion tests for intergranular corrosion sensitivity of Austenitic stainless steel”

preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with ISO are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

International standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive.

The main task of the technical committee is to set international standards. The draft international standards adopted by the Technical Committee will be circulated to member bodies for voting. Publication as an international standard requires approval by at least 75% of member bodies.

ISO 21610 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 156, Corrosion of Metals and Alloys.

ISO 21610-2009 “Corrosion of metals and alloys – Accelerated corrosion tests for intergranular corrosion sensitivity of Austenitic stainless steel”

1 range
1.1 This standard specifies an accelerated method for determining the intergranular corrosion sensitivity of austenitic stainless steel. The method specified in the standard provides the same results as those obtained with ISO 3651-1 and ISO 3651-2, but with a shorter test period for accelerated corrosion testing.

1.2 This standard applies to the testing of all kinds of metal production, including double rolled metal, welded joint, deposited metal and weld metal.

1.3 Two test methods are specified:

— Method A: Corrosion test is carried out in copper sulfate and concentrated sulfuric acid solution in the presence of copper;

— Method B: Corrosion tests are carried out in copper sulfate, sulfuric acid and copper fluoride solutions in the presence of copper metal.
