ISO 3856-6-1984 Paints and varnishes — Determination of “soluble” metal content — Part 6: Determination of total chromium content in the liquid portion of paints — Flame atomic absorption spectrometry

preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with ISO are also involved in this work.

Draft international standards adopted by technical committees are circulated to member bodies for approval before being accepted as international standards by the ISO Council. They are approved under the ISO process, which requires at least 75 per cent approval from voting member bodies.

The international standard ISO 3856/6 was developed by the Technical committee ISO/TC 35 (Paints and varnishes).

ISO 3856/6 was first published in 1980. The second edition cancelled and replaced the first edition, which was a complete revision.

ISO 3856-6-1984 Paints and varnishes — Determination of “soluble” metal content — Part 6: Determination of total chromium content in the liquid portion of paints — Flame atomic absorption spectrometry

0 Introduction
This international standard is part of ISO 3856, Paints and varnishes – Determination of “soluble” metal content.

1 Scope and domain of application
This part of ISO 3856 describes a flame atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) method for the determination of total chromium content in liquid parts of paints, prepared in accordance with sub-clause 9.3 of ISO 6713 or other appropriate international standards.

This method is suitable for coatings with total chromium content in the liquid portion in the range of approximately 0.05% to 5% (m/m).

Other methods may be used by agreement between interested parties, but this AAS method is the method of adjudication in the case of dispute.
