Differential thermal analysis is a technique for measuring the temperature difference between a substance and a reference substance under programmed temperature control. The differential thermal analysis curve describes the temperature (△T) between a sample and a reference as a function of temperature or time. In a DTA test, the sample temperature changes due to endothermic or exothermic effects of phase transitions or reactions.
