Significado e Propósito
1 Para que uma tinta funcione satisfatoriamente, it needs to adhere to the substrate on which it is applied. It has been found that this test method can be used as a simple method to evaluate the adhesion of coatings. Although this method is a qualitative (subjective) teste, it has been used in industry for many years and can provide valuable information.

2 Other adhesion testing methods may be useful to obtain quantitative results. See test methods D2197, D3359, D4541 and D7234.

3 The performance evaluation scale (veja tabela 1) is based on the difficulty of removing the coating from the substrate and the size of the coating fragments removed.

4 There is no known correlation between this test method and other adhesion test methods (desnudando, tape, etc.).

5 Coatings with high cohesive strength appear to be less cohesive than brittle coatings and thus are prone to rupture upon probing.

6 This method is not suitable for coating that is too thick, aquilo é, coating that cannot be cut to the substrate in one stroke with a utility knife.
