O prefață
ISO (Organizația Internațională pentru Standardizare) este o alianță globală a organismelor naționale de standardizare (organismele membre ISO). Elaborarea standardelor internaționale se realizează de obicei prin intermediul comitetelor tehnice ISO. Fiecare instituție membră interesată de un subiect pe care a fost înființat un comitet tehnic are dreptul de a fi reprezentată în comitet. În această activitate sunt implicate și organizații internaționale guvernamentale și neguvernamentale care colaborează cu organizațiile de standardizare. ISO lucrează îndeaproape cu Comisia Electrotehnică Internațională (IEC) în toate problemele de standardizare electrică.

International standards are drafted according to the rules given in Part 2 din Directiva ISO/IEC.

Sarcina principală a comitetului tehnic este de a elabora standarde internaționale. Draft international standards adopted by the Technical Committee will be circulated to member bodies for voting. Publicarea ca standard internațional necesită aprobarea de cel puțin 75% a instituţiilor membre.

ISO 11998 a fost dezvoltat de Comitetul Tehnic ISO/TC 35, Vopsele și lacuri, Subcomisia SC 9, General test methods for paints and varnishes.

The second edition eliminates and replaces the technically revised first edition (ISO 11998:1998). The main changes are:

– The definitions of trip length and scrubbing cycle have been changed and a new term scrubbing length has been introduced;

— The coating dry film density determination method specified in Appendix A has been replaced by the new method.

Introducere
As stated in the introduction, this international standard is a revised version of ISO 11998:1998. The use and application of the standard has now been established worldwide and improved procedures/equipment have been proposed. The CEN/ISO Joint Working Group has approved the use of new grinding pads (different from those specified in 6.5) for inter-laboratory testing. The results of the tests are expected to be published by the end of 2006 and an early revision of the standard may begin.

1 Domeniul de aplicare
The ability of the coating to withstand wear caused by repeated cleaning operations and to withstand the penetration of fouling agents is an important consideration from a practical point of view as well as from the point of view of comparing and rating such coatings. This standard describes an accelerated method for determining resistance to wet scrubbing. With regard to the cleanability of the paint, only the method itself is specified, not the fouling agent.

Note that since these properties depend not only on the quality of the coating, but also on the substrate, application method, drying conditions and other factors, the obtained results cannot be directly transferred to actual practice. În acest standard, coatings are evaluated based on defined substrates, fixed application methods, specified drying conditions and defined wet scrubbing methods.

3 Termeni și definiții
În sensul prezentului document, se aplică următorii termeni și definiții.

3.1 Cleanability

The dry coating can withstand the penetration of the fouling agent and be released from it by the cleaning process without removing more than the prescribed film thickness

3.2 Scrub cycle

A reciprocal movement of the scrub pad in both directions along the length of the scrub

3.3 Length of scrub

The stroke length plus the pad length

3.4 Trip Length

The distance traversed by the device in one stroke

3.5 Resistance to wet scrubbing

Ability of dry coated film to withstand a loss of less than the specified oil film thickness on average in the specified area when exposed to 200 wet scrubbing cycles
