ИСО (Међународна организација за стандардизацију) је глобални савез националних тела за стандардизацију (Тела чланица ИСО). Развој међународних стандарда се обично спроводи преко ИСО техничких комитета. ИСО 1513 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35, Боје и лакови, Subcommittee SC 9, Common Test Methods for Paints and varnishes.

The fourth edition cancelled and replaced the technically revised third edition (ИСО 1513:1992). It also incorporates ISO 1513:1992 /Cor. 1:1994 Technical Corrigendum. The main technological changes are:

а) The title has been changed to “Examination and preparation of test samples”;

б) Normative references have been updated;

ц) A definition clause containing the definitions of thixotropy and homogenization is added;

d) Procedures for the inspection and mixing of liquid and paste products have been consolidated into a single article (art. 5);

e) The type of sieve to be used for sample filtration is no longer specified.

This standard sets out procedures for the initial examination of individual samples received and for the preparation of test samples by mixing and reducing a series of samples representing a batch or large quantity of paint, varnish or related products.

Note that the sample of the product under test is assumed to conform to ISO 15528.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in ISO 4618 and the following articles apply.

3.1 Thixotropy

The apparent viscosity of the liquid decreases under shear stress and then gradually recovers when the stress is removed
