Shiatatchi method and cotton ball blowing method are commonly used to evaluate the drying time of coating or liquid surface. Their differences are mainly reflected in the test principle and operation mode:

Shiatsu:

Shiatachi is to evaluate the surface dry time by pressing the coating or liquid surface with the fingers to feel whether it is sticky or cohesive. When the coating or liquid surface does not have a significant sense of viscosity or adhesion, the surface can be considered dry. This method mainly relies on people’s touch and experience, which belongs to the subjective evaluation method.

Cotton ball blowing method:

Blowing cotton ball method is to use blowing tools (such as blowing ball pump) to blow air to the surface of the coating or liquid, and observe whether the surface of the cotton ball adhesion phenomenon to assess the surface dry time. When there is no longer adhesion on the surface of the cotton ball, the surface can be considered dry. This method is more objective than shiatsu and relies on observation and judgment.

The difference between the two methods mainly lies in the difference of test principle and operation mode. Shiatsu is mainly based on touch and experience. It is necessary to judge the degree of dryness of the surface through the feeling of fingers. The law of blowing cotton ball is more objective by observing the adhesion of the surface of the cotton ball. Both of these methods are relatively simple and rapid methods for assessing surface dryness, but they are not accurate measurements. They can only provide a rough estimate of drying time, which is also affected by a variety of factors, such as coating type, ambient temperature, and humidity. For some applications requiring high drying time, more accurate measurement methods and instruments may be needed to evaluate the surface drying time.
