3.1 The amount of rust under or through the paint film is an important factor in determining whether the paint system should be repaired or replaced. This practice provides a standardized method for quantifying the amount and distribution of rust on visible surfaces.

3.2 Assess the degree of rust using a scale of 0 до 10 based on the percentage of visible surface rust.

3.3 The distribution of rust is divided into spot rust, general rust, needle tip rust or mixed rust.

Сфера застосування
1.1 This practice includes assessing the degree of rust on the surface of the painted steel. Visual examples describing the percentage of rust given in the written specification form part of the standard. У разі суперечки, the written definition shall prevail. These visual examples were developed in collaboration with SSPC: Protective Coatings Association to further standardize the methodology. These photographs can be used to estimate the percentage of other coating defects on various substrates. This standard does not include an assessment of the spread of rust around the initial preparation of the streeting, sheet music, or holiday.
