Uv aging test of glass fiber reinforced composite

Release time: 2023-11-15
Glass fiber reinforced composite may be damaged by ultraviolet light in practical use, so ultraviolet aging test has become an important means to evaluate its durability. Different from xenon arc lamp aging test, ultraviolet aging test simulates the destructive effect of sunlight on materials by fluorescent ultraviolet lamp, which has some unique advantages.

1. Characteristics of fluorescent UV lamp

Fluorescent UV lamps are electrically similar to ordinary cold light lamps for lighting, but produce more ultraviolet light than visible or infrared light. Different types of fluorescent UV lamps can simulate different spectral ranges in the solar spectrum, so that the test can better conform to the actual outdoor environment. The application of irradiance control system makes the test results more accurate and reproducible.

2. Effective means to simulate wet environment

One of the main advantages of UV aging test is that it can simulate the destruction of materials in a more realistic outdoor humid environment. Through the special condensation principle, the test can simulate the condensation form of outdoor humidity and enhance the authenticity of the test. During the condensation cycle, the tank at the bottom of the test chamber is heated to produce steam, and the environment of the test chamber is kept at a high temperature with 100% relative humidity. The condensation circulation system used in the test can continuously simulate outdoor humidity, in which the nature of the water is stable and pure, improving the reproducibility of the test results.

3. The importance of a long condensation process

Because the material is generally damp outside for a long time, a typical circulating condensation system requires at least 4 hours of test time. The condensation process is carried out under warm conditions, which can greatly accelerate the damage rate of moisture to the material. Compared with other methods in high humidity environment, this test method can reproduce the damage phenomenon of materials in wet environment more effectively.

All in all, the UV aging test of glass fiber reinforced composite materials provides a reliable and real means for researchers to evaluate the durability of materials by simulating the actual wet environment, and provides strong support for the design and use of materials.
