ASTM D 6944-2020 Thermal Cycling Resistance of Cured Coatings

Meaning and Purpose
4.1 The purpose of this test is to obtain information about the ability of the coating system to adhere to the substrate under thermal stress. It is assumed that the coating system tested is coated and cured according to the coating manufacturer’s instructions.

ASTM D 6944-2020 Thermal Cycling Resistance of Cured Coatings

Scope of
1.1 This practice determines the resistance of a cured coating or coating system to repeated thermal cycles and aims to assess the impact of thermal cycles on the performance of the coating or coating system. These properties may include adhesion, resistance to inspection, cracking, foaming, or other properties. The procedure is not intended to provide a quantitative measurement of the service life that can be expected for a particular coating system on a given substrate.

1.2 This standard is not intended to address all safety issues, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.3 This international Standard has been developed in accordance with the internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade of the World Trade Organization.
