ASTM D5486/D5486M-2020 “Standard Specification for Pressure Sensitive Tapes for Packaging, Box LIDS and Seals”

Abstract

This specification covers film, paper and cloth types of pressure sensitive tape and is applied to packaging, box LIDS and seals. This specification covers five types of tape: waterproof, weather-resistant, polyester-supported tape (Type I), water-resistant polyester-supported tape (Type II), water-resistant polypropylene supported tape (Type III), water-resistant woven fabric straps (Type IV) and weather-resistant paper straps. Tape should be manufactured using film, paper or cloth as backing and coated with a smooth and evenly distributed layer of pressure-sensitive water-insoluble adhesive. The tape should be rolled over the paper fiber or plastic core, and should be free of defects, and the edge should be clean, straight and unbroken. Test adhesion, breaking strength, tear resistance, thickness, water permeability,

This summary is a brief summary of the reference standards. Step 1: Scope

1.1 This specification covers film, paper and cloth pressure sensitive tape for box closure and sealing.

1.2 Values expressed in inch-pounds or SI units shall be treated as standards separately. The values specified in each system may not be exactly the same; Therefore, each system needs to be used independently and the values cannot be combined in any way.

1.3 The following safety hazard warnings apply only to Section 14 “Test Methods” of this specification. This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of users of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental specifications and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.4 This international standard is based on internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
