ASTM D 869-2021 Evaluation of Coating Settlement

Meaning and Purpose
3.1 Paint may over-settle if improperly formulated or processed. Oversettled paint is difficult to reintegrate into the paint system, resulting in time delays or valuable pigment remaining in the drum. This test method attempts to assess the extent of settlement caused by the accelerated test method D1309. The combination of this very subjective method of assessment with the variables of the test method D1309 raises questions about the usefulness of the results for code compliance.
