ASTM D 6736-2019 “Wear and Light Resistance of Latex Paint”

Meaning and Purpose
5.1 In areas where clothing or upholstered furniture is rubbing against walls, the interior flat paint may be brightened. This friction may result in a smoother, more shiny surface in the contact area, depending on the level or type of pigment in the paint and the adhesive hardness. This method allows for a more quantitative estimation of polishing resistance compared to the use of manual friction techniques.
