Meaning and use
4.1 This guide represents a collection of relevant ASTM test methods used in the coil coatings industry. In the past, coil coaters around the world relied on industry standards set by the National Coil Coatings Association. The association, in partnership with ASTM, will no longer issue new standards or update old ones.

Step 1: Scope

1.1 This guide covers the procedures for testing coil coatings. Table 1 lists the included test methods. In cases where more than one test method is listed for the same feature, no attempt is made to show the superiority of one method over another. The choice of test methods to be followed needs to be determined by the requirements of each case and the agreement between the producer and the user.

1.2 Values expressed in SI units shall be regarded as standard values. The values given in parentheses are for reference only.

1.3 This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of users of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental specifications and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.4 This international standard is based on internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
