ASTM D2370-2021 “Test Method for Tensile Properties of Organic Coatings”

Meaning and Purpose
5.1 The tensile properties determined by this method are valuable for studying the behavior of coatings subjected to environmental stresses, such as those arising from aging and weathering. (See Ref. (1-10).) four

5.2 Tensile properties may vary depending on specimen thickness, preparation method, gauge length, load application rate, tensile tester response and type of fixture used. Therefore, these factors need to be carefully controlled when precise comparative results are required.

ASTM D2370-2021 “Test Method for Tensile Properties of Organic Coatings”

Scope of
1.1 The test method covers the determination of elongation, tensile strength and stiffness (modulus of elasticity) of organic coatings when tested as free films.

1.2 Values expressed in SI units should be considered standard values. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions of inch-pound units and are for informational purposes only and are not considered standards.

1.3 This standard is not intended to address all safety issues, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.4 This international Standard has been developed in accordance with the internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade of the World Trade Organization.
