ISO 7590-2018 “Wire rope conveyance belts – Determination methods for total thickness and cladding thickness”

A Preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented in the committee. Government and non-governmental international organizations that liaize with standardization organizations are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document as well as those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive (see iso.org/directives).

Please note that certain contents of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. Details of any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the introduction and/or in the ISO list of patent claims received (see iso.org/patents).

This document was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 41, Pulleys and Belts (including V-belts), Subcommittee SC 3, Conveyor Belts.

The sixth edition cancels and replaces the technically revised fifth edition (ISO 7590:2009). Compared with the previous edition, the main changes are as follows:

1 Scope
This document specifies three methods for measuring the total thickness and cover thickness of steel cord conveyor belts.

Methods A1 and A2 (micrometer method) can be used for all steel cord conveyor belts to measure total belt thickness and overlay thickness.

Method B (optical method) is only used to measure cover thickness. If there is textile or metal weft, it is also not suitable for the end of the wire rope to twist when cutting.

3.1 Circuit breaker
The lateral reinforcement material in the conveyor belt, usually made of textile material, is inserted above and below or above or below the wire rope at a distance of at least 1 mm and is considered as part of the lid

Note 1: It is used to protect longitudinal ropes from material damage caused by impact or jam.

3.2 Fabric
The transverse parts of the protective reinforcement of the steel cord or textile cord, usually inserted above and below the steel cord, or above or below, at a distance of less than 1 mm, are considered to be part of the conveyor belt body
