ASTM D332-2015 Standard Test Method for Observing the Relative Colorability of White Pigments by Visual Inspection

Meaning and Use

4.1 This test method is used as a referee method and quality control. The media (oil) and the coloring pigment (pansea blue) used to prepare the dispersion are given, but other media and coloring pigments may be used. Any such change in the testing method needs to be agreed between the buyer and the seller.

4.2 The results obtained with pulverizers do not necessarily correspond to industrial situations where different dispersion conditions exist. However, dispersing with a grinder is a quick and relatively inexpensive way to test the coloring strength for routine quality control.

Scope

1.1 This test method describes the procedure for determining the relative coloring power of white pigments by visual assessment of blue pigments.

1.2 The test method is only suitable for comparing test pigments with reference standards of the same type and grade.

Note 1: Test Method D2745 describes an instrument procedure for evaluating black colored samples.
