Meaning and use

4.1 This specification sets out quality requirements and provides a basis for consensus among producers, distributors and users.

4.2 Not all compliant coatings are the same in all respects, nor are they uniform. Changes in manufacturing (not covered by this specification) may cause some artists to prefer one brand over another, either of which may be accepted under this specification.

Step 1: Scope

1.1 This specification specifies the composition, physical properties, performance and labeling requirements of artists’ watercolor pigments.

1.2 This specification includes pigments, carriers and additives. Including pigment recognition, light resistance and consistency requirements.

1.3 Table 1 lists some of the pigments that meet the light resistance requirements of this specification. In order to identify other pigments that meet these requirements, instructions for the preparation of test samples are given. Refer to test methods to determine relative light resistance.

1.4 Values expressed in SI units shall be regarded as standard values. The values given in parentheses are for reference only.
