ASTM D4941-16 Standard Practice for Making Artist-Pasted Coatings

Význam a použití

5.1 The quality standard for artist’s coatings requires the evaluation of various appearance characteristics of the coating film. Coloring strength determination (test method D4838) requires, in particular, the preparation of scratch coatings for colorimetric measurement. Other evaluations such as color designation, transparency, lesk, and color difference measurements also require pull-down samples.

5.2 The artist’s tube paint has a paste consistency that makes traditional film coating methods difficult to use, especially for dry paints.

5.3 Umělci’ coatings differ in two properties that are important for film preparation, namely transparency and drying time. Colorimetric determination and some other types of evaluation require completely hidden substrate paint samples. Very transparent coatings require such a thick film to be completely covered, dry time is too long or the sample surface is flawed. When complete cover-up is required, this practice aims to provide an opaque film without these defects by applying a series of films.
