5.1 Water is known to seep into the wood substrate, leading to dimensional instability and eventual deterioration. Clear waterproof paint is designed to protect wood from the damaging effects of water. This test method is used to assess the effectiveness of waterproofing coatings on wood immediately after application or after prolonged external exposure.

Schritt 1: Umfang

1.1 This test method assesses the effectiveness of clear waterproof coatings on wood before and after external exposure.

1.2 Laboratory results using this test method can be used to compare the effectiveness of clear waterproof coatings. Unless a known water repellent is used as a reference, the consistency between results obtained in different laboratories may be less satisfactory.

1.3 Values in inch-pounds shall be considered as standard values. The values given in parentheses are mathematical transformations of SI units and are for reference only and are not considered standard.
