The second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 18280:2005), which was revised to include the following additional test methods:
– Determination of softening point (sehen 3.1.2);
– Determination of the content of 1, 2-glycol (sehen 3.2.3);
– Determination of the conductivity of aqueous resin extracts (sehen 3.2.4).

The purpose of this international standard is to outline the ISO test methods used to characterize epoxy resins. Appropriate and necessary test methods for the characterization of epoxy resins prior to polymerization are listed, along with a brief description of the principles involved.
ISO 18280-2010 “Testmethoden für Kunststoff-Epoxidharze”
Due to the particularity of thermosetting resins such as epoxy resins, the performance of pre-crosslinking (useful characteristics for processing) and post-crosslinking (inherent characteristics) is different. ISO 3673-2 gives a procedure for determining the inherent properties of crosslinked (or cured) epoxy resins.
1 Geltungsbereich
Epoxy resins are a class of synthetic resins that include products ranging from viscous liquids to high melting point solids. Resin molecules contain one or more ethylene oxide or epoxy groups as reaction sites, usually in the form of glycidyl. The commercially important resin is the glycidyl ether of bisphenol A, made from the condensation of epichlorohydrin and diphenylpropane (bisphenol A). Epoxy resins with different properties can also be commercially produced by reacting epichlorohydrin with other materials. In order to be used, the resin needs to be cross-linked with a hardener or hardener. The choice of curing agent is very important in designing an epoxy resin system for a given application. The main reactive groups in the resin, the epoxy and hydroxyl groups, react with many other groups, so a variety of chemicals can be used as curing agents. These include anhydrides, aliphatic and aromatic amines, and polyamides. Some curing agents cross-link the resin at ambient temperatures, while others require heat.
This international standard Outlines ISO test methods for characterizing epoxy resins. The listed attributes to be determined in any given case depend on the agreement between the supplier and the customer.
