Description/Summary:
Scope and field of application

Determination of paint flow time. Varnishes and similar coatings are used to obtain characteristic values that can be used as a simple aid in assessing the fluidity and suitability of such products.

DIN 53211-1987 “Determination of flow time using DIN flow cups for paints, varnishes and similar coating materials”

DIN flow cups are not suitable for determining flow rates of less than 25 seconds (corresponding to kinematic viscosity of about 90 mm2/s). When using an ISO 2431 flow cup, the flow time should not exceed 150 seconds (equivalent to a kinemical viscosity of approximately 700 mm2/s).
