Instrumental evaluation of leveling by this test method has been shown to be relevant for the evaluation of brush applications.

1.1 This test method 2 covers the laboratory determination of the relative leveling of water and solvent resolvable architectural coatings in white and light tones by comparing ridges generated in drawn films with a range of plastic leveling standards.

1.2 Colorless, textured, and dark-toned coatings cannot easily be evaluated with the shadows generated by the oblique lighting employed in this test method. Such coatings can be assessed by comparing them to standards for plastics with different reflection angles. For this, ordinary interior lighting is satisfactory.

1.3 As other factors may affect the droop tendency of liquid coatings, this test method is not used to measure flowhang.
