5.1 Paint formulation designers can use this practice to determine whether a given paint has the ability to form a film at low temperatures. This practice can be used to help determine the level of coalescence solvent needed to form a good film. Test method D3793 compares the porosity of a film stretched at room temperature with another film stretched and cured at low temperatures.

5.2 This practice does not provide absolute information, but merely a ranking of the selected series of paints.

5.3 This practice can provide a pass-fail scenario if known acceptable and unacceptable coatings are included in the test.

1.1 This practice specifies a laboratory procedure for evaluating the ability of latex paints to form uniform films at low temperatures without apparent defects.
