הקדמה
ISO (הארגון הבינלאומי לתקינה) היא ברית גלובלית של גופי תקינה לאומיים (גופים חברי ISO). פיתוח תקנים בינלאומיים מתבצע בדרך כלל באמצעות ועדות טכניות של ISO. כל מוסד חבר המעוניין בנושא בו הוקמה ועדה טכנית זכאי להיות מיוצג בוועדה. ארגונים בינלאומיים ממשלתיים ובלתי-ממשלתיים העוסקים בקשר עם ארגוני תקינה מעורבים אף הם בעבודה זו. Together with other parts (see below), this part of ISO 2884 eliminates and replaces the technically revised ISO 2884:1974. The main changes are:

א) Only cone viscometers are now specified;

ב) The shear rate is within a narrow range.

החלק הזה של ISO 2884 is one of the series dealing with the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes and related products.

It complements ISO 2431:1993, צבעים ולכות – Determination of flow times using flow cups.

It specifies the general procedure to be followed in the determination of the dynamic viscosity of paints, varnish and related products at shear rates between 9 000 s−1 and 12 000 s−1.

The obtained values provide information about the resistance of the material to brush, spray, and roll coating during application.

The method specified in this part of ISO 2884 applies to all paints and varniels, whether they behave Newtonian or not. Materials containing large granular dispersions can produce spurious results.
