The fifth edition eliminates and replaces the fourth edition (ISO 3251:2008), which has been technically revised. The main changes from the previous edition are as follows:

To ISO 4618 – increased in clause 3 general reference of the terms and definitions:

— 4.5 example of desiccant to silica gel in orange, because no longer allowed to use cobalt chloride as the indicator;

Corrected accuracy data for polymer dispersions: the figures given in the 2008 edition were ± data, which have now been correctly converted to percentages;

General test parameters for paint powders (powder resins) have been removed from Table A.1 because ISO 8130-7 can be used instead;

Added common test parameters for waterborne coatings in Table A.1.

מבוא
For methods that can be used for unplasticized polymer dispersions and rubber latex, the non-volatile residues (mainly composed of polymer materials and small amounts of additives, such as emulsifiers, protective colloids, stabilizers, solvents added as film forming agents andespecially for rubber latex concentratespreservatives) need to be chemically stable under the test conditions. For plasticized samples, residues usually include plasticizers by definition.

ISO 3233 (כל החלקים) specifies test methods for determining the content of non-volatile substances in paints, varnishments and related products.

1 היקף היישום
This document specifies a determination of paint, varnish, paint and varnish binder, polymer dispersions and condensation resin (such as phenolic resin (JiaJie phenolic resin and novolac solution, וכו ')) method of non-volatile matter content.

This method can also be applied to preparation containing fillers, pigments and other additives, such as thickening agent, film former dispersions.

הערה 1: the product of the volatile matter content is not absolute, but rather depends on the determination of the temperature and heating time. לָכֵן, when this method is used, only relative rather than true values of the non-volatile content can be obtained due to solvent retention, thermal decomposition, and evaporation of low molecular weight components. לָכֵן, this method is mainly used to test different batches of the same type of product.

הערה 2 This method is suitable for synthetic rubber latex, provided that heating for a specified period of time is considered appropriate (ISO 124 provides heating until the mass loss of 2 g of the test portion is less than 0.5 mg after continuous heating).

הערה 3 Internal methods for determining nonvolatile substances usually include drying with infrared or microwave radiation. The standardization of this kind of method is impossible, because they are not universal. Several polymer compositions tend to break down during this treatment and therefore give incorrect results.
