מבוא
ISO (הארגון הבינלאומי לתקינה) היא ברית גלובלית של גופי תקינה לאומיים (גופים חברי ISO). פיתוח תקנים בינלאומיים מתבצע בדרך כלל באמצעות ועדות טכניות של ISO. כל מוסד חבר המעוניין בנושא שעליו הוקמה ועדה טכנית זכאי להיות מיוצג באותה ועדה. ארגונים ממשלתיים ולא-ממשלתיים בינלאומיים המקיימים קשר עם ISO מעורבים גם הם בעבודה זו. ISO עובד בשיתוף פעולה הדוק עם הנציבות האלקטרוטכנית הבינלאומית (חברת החשמל) בכל הקשור לתקינה חשמלית.

ISO 4630 פותח על ידי הוועדה הטכנית ISO/TC 35, צבעים ולכות, ועדת המשנה SC 10, Methods of Testing Adhesives for Paints and varnishes, in collaboration with ASTM D 01.34, Navy Shop. It has been harmonized with ASTM D 1544-04, Standard Test Method for Color of Clear Liquids (Gardner Color Scale), and ASTM D 6166-12, Standard Test Method for Color of Naval Warehouses and Related Products (Gardner Instrumental Determination of Color).

The third edition of ISO 4630 cancels and replaces the technically revised ISO 4630-1:2004 ו-ISO 4630-2:2004. The main changes are:

א) The two standards have been merged into one standard;

ב) Spectrophotometry (previously described in ISO 4630-2:2004) is currently a standardized method;

ג) The visual comparison of the original color (previously described in ISO 4630-1:2004) has been removed and the manufacturing instructions for the original Gardner color standard have been moved to Appendix A.

This international standard specifies a method for estimating the color of optically clear, yellow/brown liquid products using a color measuring instrument on the Gardner color scale. The method uses the Gardner color scale described in Appendix A.

Suitable for fatty acids, polymeric fatty acids, resins, tall oil, tall oil, tall oil fatty acids, rosin and related products drying oil, varnish and solution. If other products are tested, the results may not be valid.

The method described provides a more accurate way to measure Gardner’s color than using the human eye for visual sample comparison. It is available in colors from Gardner 1 to Gardner 18. The Gardner Scale does not apply to products with a color darker than 18. For products lighter in colour than Gardner 1, the method specified in ISO 6271 חל.
