ISO 22553-16-2022, Paints and varnishes – Electrodeposition coatings – Part 16: pigment-binder ratio

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the global federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member group interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on the Committee. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations in liaison with ISO are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive describes the procedures used to develop this document and for further maintenance. In particular, note the different approval standards required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editorial rules in Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive (see

ISO 22553-16-2022, Paints and varnishes – Electrodeposition coatings – Part 16: pigment-binder ratio

The electrodeposition coating material (e-coat) consists of pigment paste and adhesive. The test method determines the ratio of two components in the electrodeposited coating material.

When determining ash, there is always a percentage loss (burning loss), and then the pigment content is added. Therefore, ash and pigment content is not equivalent. This is accounted for by product-specific correction factors.

The ratio of pigment to binder is the key characteristic that controls the electrophoresis tank.

1 range
This document specifies a test method for determining the pigment-binder ratio.

It is suitable for electrodeposited coatings in the automotive industry and other general industrial applications, such as chiller, consumer products, radiators, aerospace, agriculture.
