ISO 8130-7-2019 Powder coatings – Part 7: Determination of mass loss upon baking

ISO 8130-7:2019 “Powder coatings — Part 7: Determination of mass loss during baking” (GB/T 21782.7-2008) provides a method for determining mass loss during baking of powder coatings applied to substrates by electrostatic spraying.

Standard No. : ISO 8130-7-2019 Name: Powder coatings – Part 7: Determination of mass loss during baking Practice status: current
A Preface
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a global alliance of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The development of international standards is usually carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member institution interested in a subject on which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented in the committee. Government and non-governmental international organizations that liaize with standardization organizations are also involved in this work. ISO works closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrical standardization.

The procedures used to develop this document as well as those used for further maintenance are described in Part 1 of the ISO/IEC Directive. In particular, attention should be paid to the different approval criteria required for different types of ISO documents. This document has been drafted in accordance with the editorial rules of Part 2 of the ISO/IEC Directive (see iso.org/directives).

Please note that certain contents of this document may be subject to patent rights. ISO is not responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights. Details of any patent rights identified during the development of the document will be in the introduction and/or in the ISO list of patent claims received (see iso.org/patents).

Voluntary, related standards and conformity assessment related ISO specific terminology and express the meaning of and the ISO in the technical barriers to trade (TBT) adhere to the principle of the world trade organization (WTO) information, please see the iso.org/iso/foreword.html.

This document is prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 35, Paints and varnishes, Subcommittee SC 9, General Test methods for paints and varnishes.

The second edition cancels and replaces the technically revised first edition (ISO 8130-7:1992).

Compared with the previous edition, the main changes are as follows:

– Added “Terms and definitions” clause;

– added the “principles” clause;

– The name of the mass has changed significantly, where m0 is now (m 1 — m0) and m 1 is now (m 2 — m0);

— A table has been added to Annex A, which contains time, temperature and sample quality data for different classes of paint powders;

– Delete the original annex A “Supplementary information required”;

— The text has been edited and revised, and normative references have been updated.

A list of all parts in the ISO 8130 series can be found on the ISO website.

Any feedback or questions regarding this document should be directed to the user’s national standards body. A full list of these agencies can be found at iso.org/members.html.

ISO 8130-7-2019 Powder coatings – Part 7: Determination of mass loss upon baking

1 Scope
This document provides a method for determining the baking quality loss of coating powders applied by electrostatic or flocking spraying or fluidized beds.

The method described in this document is a simple and practical test that provides sufficiently accurate results for powders that lose approximately 2% (by mass) when roasted (heated). Beyond 2%, the accuracy decreases as the quality loss increases.

This method determines the amount of all volatile substances, including water.

The thermogravimetric test described in the ISO 11358 series can be used as a comparison method.
