Significato e scopo
1 Perché una vernice funzioni in modo soddisfacente, it needs to adhere to the substrate on which it is applied. It has been found that this test method can be used as a simple method to evaluate the adhesion of coatings. Although this method is a qualitative (subjective) test, it has been used in industry for many years and can provide valuable information.

2 Other adhesion testing methods may be useful to obtain quantitative results. See test methods D2197, D3359, D4541 and D7234.

3 The performance evaluation scale (Vedi la tabella 1) is based on the difficulty of removing the coating from the substrate and the size of the coating fragments removed.

4 There is no known correlation between this test method and other adhesion test methods (spogliamento, nastro, eccetera.).

5 Coatings with high cohesive strength appear to be less cohesive than brittle coatings and thus are prone to rupture upon probing.

6 This method is not suitable for coating that is too thick, questo è, coating that cannot be cut to the substrate in one stroke with a utility knife.
