ISO (Organizzazione internazionale per la standardizzazione) è un'alleanza globale di organismi di normalizzazione nazionali (Organismi membri dell'ISO). Lo sviluppo di standard internazionali viene solitamente effettuato attraverso i comitati tecnici ISO. Ciascuna istituzione associata interessata ad una materia sulla quale è stato costituito un comitato tecnico ha il diritto di essere rappresentata in tale comitato. In questo lavoro sono coinvolte anche organizzazioni internazionali governative e non governative che collaborano con l'ISO. L'ISO lavora a stretto contatto con la Commissione Elettrotecnica Internazionale (CEI) su tutte le questioni di standardizzazione elettrotecnica.

Le norme internazionali sono redatte in conformità alle regole riportate nella Part 2 della Direttiva ISO/IEC.

Il compito principale del comitato tecnico è stabilire gli standard internazionali. I progetti di standard internazionali adottati dal Comitato Tecnico saranno distribuiti agli organi membri per la votazione. La pubblicazione come standard internazionale richiede l'approvazione di almeno 75% degli organi membri.

ISO 2846-2 è stato sviluppato dal Comitato Tecnico ISO/TC 130, Graphic Technology.

La seconda edizione annulla e sostituisce la prima edizione (ISO 2846-2:2000), in which articles 4 E 5 have been technically revised and the colorimetric characteristics of inks have been adjusted to meet actual commercial requirements and process standard ISO 12647-3[1]. The test print readiness details specified in ISO 2834-1 have now been removed.

ISO 2846 consists of the following sections under the general heading Graphics Technology – Color and Transparency of printing ink sets for four-colour printing:

— Parte 1: Sheet-fed and heat-set web offset lithography

— Parte 2: cold-set offset lithography

— Parte 3: Intaglio printing of publications

— Parte 4: Screen printing

— Parte 5: Flexographic printing

The first draft of ISO 2846-2 was written by ISO/TC 130 for material and process control. They examined the colorimetric properties of commercial cold-set web offset inks from around the world and found a set of color coordinates that adequately represented these color coordinates within reasonable tolerances. Since this part of ISO 2846 was first published, additional coordination between the various national agencies involved in ISO/TC 130 has shown that minor improvements to the contrasting color target will bring it more in line with the actual commercial printing requirements and process standard ISO 12647-3 [1].

Questa parte dell'ISO 2846 will allow printers to obtain sets of printing inks from a variety of sources that will produce similar colours when printed on a reference substrate at the appropriate film thickness. This will allow color separation of cold-set offset printing based on known color standards. The colorimetric properties specified in this part of ISO 2846 can only be obtained when the ink is printed on a reference substrate. Tuttavia, the similarity of the two inks on the reference substrate will ensure the similarity on the other substrate.

Questa parte dell'ISO 2846 specifies the color and transparency of inks used for four-color cold-set web offset printing when printed on a printability tester under specified conditions. It also describes testing methods to ensure consistency.

Questa parte dell'ISO 2846 does not apply to fluorescent inks and does not specify pigments (or spectral reflectance) so as not to rule out future use of suitable pigment combinations and still claim to meet its colorimetric requirements.
