ASTM D 2369-2020 Vluchtige inhoud van coatings

Betekenis en doel
4.1 Deze testmethode is een selectieprocedure voor de bepaling van vluchtige stoffen in coatings, with the purpose of calculating the VOC content in coatings under specified test conditions. The weight percentage of solid content (niet-vluchtige materie) can be determined by difference. This information is very useful for paint producers and users as well as environmental benefits for determining volatiles emitted by paints.

Reikwijdte van
1.1 This test method describes the procedure for determining the weight percent volatile content of solvent-based and water-based coatings. The samples were heated at 110±5°C for 60 min.

Opmerking 1: The coatings used in these cycle studies include air drying, air drying oxidation, heat curing and baking systems, as well as multi-component coating systems.

1.2 60 min at 110 ± 5°C is a general test method based on the accuracy obtained for solvent-based and water-based coatings (Zie sectie 9).

1.3 The test method is applicable to coatings in which one or more components may contain a volatile liquid core active agent under ambient conditions until chemical reaction with another component of the multipack system.

ASTM D 2369-2020 Vluchtige inhoud van coatings

Opmerking 2: The D01 committee conducted a cycle study on volatils of multi-component coating systems. One variation of the procedure was to pre-mix the weighed ingredients in the correct proportions and allow the samples to sit for 1 hour at room temperature before placing them in the oven.

1.4 Test Method D5095 for the determination of the Non-volatile content of silane, siloxane and silan-siloxane mixtures used in Masonry waterproof treatments is the standard method for the non-volatile content of these types of materials.

1.5 Test Method for the Volatile Content of Radiation-cured Materials D5403 is a standard method for the determination of the non-volatile content of radiation-cured coatings, inks and adhesives.

1.6 Test Method D6419 for the Volatile content of offset printing inks for sheetfed and cold-set web is the method of choice for these types of printing inks.

1.7 This test method may not be applicable to all types of coatings. Other procedures can be replaced by mutual agreement between producers and users.

Opmerking 3: In case of abnormal decomposition or degradation of the sample during heating, the actual time and temperature of the actual curing coating can be replaced by the time and temperature specified in this test method by mutual agreement between the producer and the user. The US EPA Reference Method 24 specifies that the paint lasts for 1 hour at 110 ± 5°C.

Opmerking 4: Practice D3960 for the determination of volatile organic Compound (VOC) content in paints and related coatings describes procedures and calculations and provides guidance on the selection of test methods to determine the VOC content of solve-based and waterborne coatings.
