ASTM D 6266-2017 “Determination of the Amount of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) Emitted from Waterborne Automotive Coatings and the amount Removed (Reduced Amount) from voc Control Devices

Betekenis en gebruik
4.1 This test method provides basic engineering data that can be used to determine the amount of VOC delivered to the inlet of VOC control equipment. This procedure can be used to determine the amount of VOC produced from the coating in a flash area or oven and can be incinerated, although the same procedure can be followed when using other forms of VOC abatement.

4.2 The total amount of VOC removed from the process by the VOC control device is a function of the available amount given by the test method and the VOC removal efficiency of the control device.

bereik
1.1 This test method describes the determination of the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) released from applied waterborne automotive coatings that can be used for delivery to VOC control equipment. The determination is accomplished by measuring evaporative or dry weight loss of the newly coated test plate and analyzing the VOC or water content of the coating.

1.2 This test method is applicable to VOC released from application and baking operations after painting in simulated production processes or actual production facilities.

1.3 Symbols and calculations of several other methods for determining VOC: Practice D3960, EPA 450/3-88-018 and EPA 450/3-84-019 have been incorporated into this test method. Most of the notations and calculations used in this test method are unique because the test method uniquely deals with weight differences in applied paint samples that have been dried, cured, or solvent-added.

Opmerking 1: The importance of training and knowledge of the evaluated product to derive meaningful data from this test methodology is overstated. It is recommended that multiple practice runs and laboratory repeatability be evaluated before performing this test on test samples.

It is the responsibility of any user of this standard to consult and establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions before using this standard.
