ISO (Organização Internacional para Padronização) é uma federação global de associações nacionais de padrões (Órgãos membros da ISO). The development of international standards is carried out through ISO technical committees. This international standard eliminates and replaces ISO Recommendation R 787/1-1968, which constitutes a technical revision.

The purpose of this standard is to establish a common set of test methods for pigments and fillers that are applicable to all or many individual pigments and fillers for which specifications may be required. Nesse caso, a cross-reference to the general method should be included in the international standard relating to the pigment or filler, with an indication of any detailed modifications that may be required in view of the particular properties of the product concerned.

A ISO/TC 35 Technical Committee, Tintas e Vernizes, decided that all common methods should be published as part of a single international standard when available to emphasize the relationship of each method to the entire series.

The Technical Committee also decided that if two or more procedures are widely used to determine the same or similar properties of pigments or fillers, there is no objection to the inclusion of more than one of these procedures in the ISO series. 0 Introdução
This document is part of ISO 787 “Common Test Methods for pigments and fillers”. ISO/R 787/1 was published in July 1968. The difference between this revision and the 1968 edition is this

a) The color comparison is performed using the procedure described in ISO 3668, e

b) No adhesive is specified.

1 Scope and field of application
1.1 Esta parte da ISO 787 specifies a common test method for comparing the color of colored pigments with the color of agreed samples.

1.2 Any of the procedures described in Article 6 are acceptable, but the method using the automatic Muller is the reference method.

Note that when this general approach is applied to a given pigment, the international standard relating to that pigment should include only a cross-reference to that pigment and indicate any detailed modifications that may be required in view of the particular properties of the material concerned. A special method of color comparison should be specified only if the procedure given in this general method is not applicable to a particular material.
