Coatings of paints, varnishes and similar materials (then simply referred to as coatings) are exposed to laboratory light sources in order to simulate in the laboratory the aging process that occurs during natural weathering or behind window glass.

1 Range
This document specifies methods for exposing coatings to fluorescent UV lamps, heat, and water in devices designed to reproduce the weathering effects that occur when materials are exposed to daylight in an actual end-use environment or through window glass.

The coatings are exposed to different types of fluorescent UV lamps under controlled environmental conditions (температура, влажност, and/or water). Different types of fluorescent UV lamps can be used to meet all requirements for testing different materials.

Sample preparation and result evaluation are covered for specific materials in other ISO documents.

General guidance is given in ISO 16474-1.

Note that exposure to fluorescent UV lamps for plastics is described in ISO 4892-3.

3.1 Radiation Exposure

H Test the radiation energy exposed to the panel

H is radiation exposure, measured in joules per square meter (J/m2);

E is irradiance, in watts per square meter (W/m2);

t is the exposure time, in seconds.
