ASTM D2126-2020 Standard Test Method for Thermal and Wet Aging Reactions of Rigid Foam Plastics

Meaning and Purpose
4.1 due to the potential use of rigid cellular plastics are diverse, so the effective behavior of human exposure to estimate these materials need to a large extent based on the desired application. For this, the test method is designed to recommend a variety of conditions, select one or more required exposure conditions. (Note 3)

4.2 The conditions recommended in this test method have been widely used to artificially expose rigid porous plastics and to determine the effects of various temperatures and humidity on these materials. The ultimate test measured value in determining sample after return to room temperature. In the specified case, samples will be tested under exposure conditions but will need to be reported.

4.3 through the test method for measuring the size of the changes can be used to compare the material performance in a specific environment, evaluation of two or more relative stability of porous plastic, or specify particular materials acceptance criteria. The results of this testing method are not suitable for predicting end-use product performance or characteristics and are not sufficient for engineering or design calculations.

Note 3: If a thermal shock is known or suspected to occur as a result of rapid heating to (or cooling from) a specific temperature, guidance should be obtained from the manufacturer of the material in question as to the allowable heating or cooling rate or both.

Note 4: the size of the sample changes may be due to the age of the sample or sample preparation and testing began between the length of time or both.

4.4 Before performing this test method, reference should be made to the specifications of the material being tested. Material specification or its portfolio covers any sample preparation, adjustment, size or test parameters should be prior to this test method mentioned in the argument. If there is no specification, the default condition applies.
