ASTM D2794-2019 “Standard Test Method for Resistance of Organic Coatings to Rapid Deformation (Impact)”

Meaning and Purpose
5.1 The coating attached to the substrate will be subject to destructive impact during the manufacturing and use of the product. In many years of use, it has been found that this impact resistance test method can be used to predict the ability of organic coatings to resist impact-induced cracking.

ASTM D2794-2019 “Standard Test Method for Resistance of Organic Coatings to Rapid Deformation (Impact)”

Scope of
1.1 The test method covers procedures for rapid deformation of the coating and its substrate by impact and evaluation of the effect of such deformation.

1.2 When numerical values are used, the test method should be limited to testing in one laboratory because of the poor reproducibility of the method. Inter-laboratory consistency is improved when rankings are used instead of numerical values.

1.3 Values expressed in inch-pounds should be considered standard values. The values given in parentheses are mathematical transformations of SI units and are for reference only and are not considered standard.

1.4 This standard is not intended to address all safety issues, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.5 This international Standard has been developed in accordance with the internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade of the World Trade Organization.
