ASTM D3759/D3759M-2019 “Standard Test Method for Breaking Strength and Elongation of Pressure Sensitive Tape”

Meaning and use
5.1 The information provided by this test method can be used for material specifications for product design and quality assurance applications. Can be used to compare different products.

5.2 The use of the test method must be related to the test purpose. One purpose is to determine the relative strength of the tape at the time of purchase or use. Another aim is to identify or characterize a specific backing material.

5.2.1 The test may be performed on the received tape, i.e. the material is not cut into a sample width less than the received width. Generally, tapes wider than 48 mm [2 in] are not tested, mainly due to equipment limitations. Tape that is about 3 mm [0.125 in] narrow can be tested.

5.2.2 Tests may be performed on samples cut within the boundaries of the sample material using a sharp razor, such as the blade defined in Section 6. This method is commonly used for material characterization, determining consistent quality, and conforming to specifications.

5.3 Elongation at break or tensile properties up to a specified elongation may be related to the intended use of the tape or to its use in identifying or characterizing the material.

ASTM D3759/D3759M-2019 “Standard Test Method for Breaking Strength and Elongation of Pressure Sensitive Tape”

Step 1: Scope
1.1 This test method covers the measurement of the breaking tensile strength (breaking strength) and tensile properties (elongation) of pressure-sensitive tapes and labels. It includes programs for machine orientation and transversal, high strength filament reinforced backing and high elastic backing. It also includes the process of obtaining the force (” F “value) of the specified elongation. These programs use a constant rate of expansion (CRE) type test machine.

1.2 Values expressed in SI units or inch-pound units shall be regarded as standard values respectively. The values specified in each system may not be exactly the same; The conversion between measurement systems needs to be done carefully.

1.3 This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of users of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental specifications and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.4 This international standard is based on internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
