ASTM D3813/D3813M-2020 – Standard Test Method for Crimping, Twisting, and Tubing of Pressure Sensitive Tape When Unrolled

Meaning and use
5.1 This test method will provide information on the relative tendency of the tape to curl, twist or form a tube with a contact edge. The amount of each material can indicate the difficulties one may have in handling strips of any length during use.

5.2 There are several reasons why the degree or extent of these characteristics can change and may change in a batch of tape. Therefore, when you need to use this test method to compare two types of tapes for sampling purposes, you need to use the accepted sampling plan (see Section 7).

Step 1: Scope
1.1 This test method provides a procedure for determining the degree of crimp, the degree of distortion, and the tendency of the tube to form after loosening the tape from the tape roll.

1.2 Values expressed in SI units or inch-pound units shall be regarded as standard values respectively. The values specified in each system may not be exactly the same; Therefore, each system needs to be used independently and the values cannot be combined in any way.

1.3 This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of users of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental specifications and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

1.4 This international standard is based on internationally recognized standardization principles established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guidelines and Recommendations issued by the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
