ASTM D4228-2017 Standard Practice for the Qualification of Coating Builders for Coating on Steel Surfaces

abstraction

This practice provides a qualified method for verifying the proficiency and ability of the coating applicator to achieve the quality required to apply a specific coating to the steel surface, given the appropriate tools and equipment. The coating applicator should provide information about the specified coating material, the coating material should be properly mixed and ready for painting, the equipment needed to paint the specified coating, miscellaneous materials for cleaning the equipment, the operating area, all necessary safety equipment, and a thickness meter. The paint applicator is then asked to demonstrate its ability to apply the specified coating to the test plate using the appropriate technology and application equipment. Evaluation of coating applicators should be carried out by two qualified agents, only one of which can be related to production. The qualified agent shall inspect the finished surface and verify that it complies with the specified requirements.
