Meaning and use

4.1 Surface cleaning shall be applied to the preparation of masonry surfaces of concrete units for coating for light service, spatter and spill of water and chemical solutions, radiation exposure, decontamination and repeated rinsing with alkaline cleaners.

Step 1: Scope

1.1 This practice includes surface cleaning of the concrete block unit prior to application of paint to remove dust, dirt, mortar spatter, oil and grease. Procedures include vacuum cleaning, jet cleaning, water cleaning, detergent washing, steam cleaning and mechanical cleaning.

1.2 This practice may change the surface profile of the concrete, but is mainly used to clean the surface.

1.3 This standard is not intended to address all safety concerns, if any, associated with its use.
