ASTM D5724-2016 Standard Specification for Gouache Pigments

abstraction

The specification defines the requirements for the composition, physical properties, performance and labeling of gouache pigments. Pigments, carriers and additives are included here, including requirements for pigment identification, light fastness and consistency. This article lists some pigments that meet the light resistance requirements in this manual. In addition, in order to identify other pigments that meet these requirements, instructions for test sample preparation and corresponding test methods for determining relative light resistance are given. Conditions that are not covered in this manual that affect gouettes are substrate, environmental conditions, storage, carrier, pigment, additives, inert gases, sample preparation, coarse particles, dispersion fineness, consistency, freeze-thaw stability, etc.

Meaning and use

4.1 This specification sets out quality requirements and provides a basis for consensus among producers, distributors and users.

4.2 Not all compliant coatings are the same in all respects, nor are they uniform. Changes in manufacturing (not covered by this specification) may cause some artists to prefer one brand over another, either of which may be accepted under this specification.

Step 1: Scope

1.1 This specification specifies the composition, physical properties, performance and labeling requirements of gouache pigments.

1.2 This specification includes pigments, carriers and additives. Including pigment recognition, light resistance and consistency requirements.

1.3 Table 1 lists some of the pigments that meet the light resistance requirements of this specification. In order to identify other pigments that meet these requirements, instructions for the preparation of test samples are given. Refer to test methods to determine relative light resistance.

1.4 Values expressed in SI units shall be considered standard. The values given in parentheses are for reference only.

(A) The color index number 77491 May be used as a substitute for 77492 of PBr 7.

(B) For information on white pigments, see Appendix X3.
